About ritual
Ritual is a podcast about how humans make patterns of meaning in a maddening world. We all do a lot of weird stuff, for a lot of weird reasons. We burn things and chant in unison at a child and call it a birthday party. We wear ceremonial face paint and sacred garments and call it game day. Sometimes it takes looking at practices from cultures and contexts totally different from your own to realize that what you do is just as bizarre. Season One focuses on the quest for immortality and how we cope with our own expiration dates.
The rituals we discuss will span centuries and civilizations. They will run the gamut from the ornately performative, to the relatively mundane. Each of the rituals discussed is performed as an expression of belief in something. Sometimes that is belief in God, or many gods. Sometimes that is a belief in the state. And sometimes this is as simple as a belief in something about what makes us human.

the RITUAL TEAM
Savannah Marquardt
Host + Creator
Savannah was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, where she learned to love organized religion, hearing herself talk, and the Spotify playlist 'Southern Gothic.' She studied Classics at the only place more into tradition than the south: Princeton University. You can often find her impulse-buying hot peppers at the farmer's market, or pretending to be a docent in D.C.'s art museums.
Thomas G. Roberts
Producer + Developer
Thomas is the audio engineer, web and graphic designer, and content manager behind Ritual. Outside of the studios at DraftHouse, he spends a frightening amount of time thinking about outer space and the humans that go there. Raised in Morris, Minnesota, Thomas studied astrophysics at Princeton University.
Grace May
Producer + Editor
Grace moved from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in the heart of Appalachia to Washington, D.C., where she studied politics at Georgetown University. After graduating, she stuck around to work in immigration policy. At DraftHouse, Grace oversees script editing and supports the creators in crafting their narratives.
